Edinburgh as a capital of Scotland and the largest city in the Lothians, a region of the Lowlands, and is situated at the eastern end of the Central Belt. There's nearly half a million people who call Edinburgh their home. This as a result means that there's plenty of shopping, restaurants and takeaways to please everyone. Edinburgh regularly polls as one of the best places to live, having won more than 12 UK Best City Awards in 8 years to 2013.
The city hosts the annual Edinburgh International Festival, which is one of many events that run between the end of July and early September each year. The best known of these events are the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the Edinburgh International Festival, the Edinburgh Military Tattoo and the Edinburgh International Book Festival. So, there's plenty of tourists adding to the local crowd who enjoy a good meal be it a restaurant or a good takeaway. Some of the restaurants can be found in the bigger shopping centres within the city. Edinburgh also has substantial retail parks outside the city centre. These include The Gyle Shopping Centre and Hermiston Gait in the west of the city, Cameron Toll Shopping Centre, Straiton Retail Park and Fort Kinnaird in the south and east, and Ocean Terminal in the north on the Leith waterfront.
